Founded in 2024 as a peer-reviewed research journal co-led by faculty and law students at the University of Nebraska College of Law.
The Nebraska Journal on Advancing Justice is an online, peer-reviewed, and open-access law journal that aims to provide a forum for robust and creative scholarly engagement from academics, researchers, judges, lawyers, people who are justice-impacted, and community members on issues of advancing justice for all. The Journal is committed to promoting intellectual discourse, methodologically diverse knowledge production, and critical analysis of legal and policy issues that impact people and groups in Nebraska, nationally, and globally.
SAVE THE DATE: NJAJ Symposium to be held on February 26th, 2027
The Nebraska Journal on Advancing Justice Symposium will be focused on issues surrounding incarceration.
Save the date for the inaugural symposium held by the Nebraska Journal on Advancing Justice (NJAJ)! On February 27th, 2027, NJAJ will be hosting an all-day symposium titled: “Emerging Issues in the Law of Confinement.” More specifically, this year’s symposium focuses on the evolving landscape governing confinement—including jails, prisons, immigration detention, and other carceral settings—with particular attention to emerging doctrinal developments, systemic challenges, and reform efforts. The Symposium will bring together scholars, practitioners, advocates, and students to explore cutting-edge legal questions arising from the incarceration and detention of people in the United States and beyond.
Selected creative work will also be on display so that participants can connect the scholarship to the lived experience of incarceration. NJAJ invites creative work submissions created by incarcerated individuals, their loved ones, and those who work closely with them. Submissions can include drawings, paintings, photographs, or any other visual media that illustrates the realities of incarceration as experienced firsthand or as witnessed by others. Accepted work will be on display at the University of Nebraska College of Law from February 22 to the date of the Symposium on February 26, 2027.
